== Admission of New Standards ==

This set of Standards is presented as a website but it is managed by a small committee who assess additions. An application to have another breed included in OPSA may be made in writing to the Committee.

Currently OPSA has categories for Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Turkeys, Guineafowl, Eggs, Utility Standards and other breed standards for breeds in Australia but not covered in earlier categories.  

==Requirements==

1. Before any breed or variety is eligible for inclusion in Open Poultry Standards Australia it must comply with the following requirements: 

* The majority of its progeny must be true to type and colour i.e. they must possess the general characteristics of the breed.

* In the case of exhibition standards, specimens of the breed or variety must have been exhibited at shows, and photos of both the male and female specimens must be forwarded to the Open Poultry Standards Australia Committee Council on application for inclusion. 

* In the case of a new breed, the fowls must possess distinct characteristics, and in the case of a new variety they must conform to the character of the breed of which they are a variety.

==How to Appy==

Send an email to admin@openpoultrystandards.com including details of your request.

The request for admission must be accompanied by:

* A brief description of the breed or variety, including particulars of its origin and breeding, and also an estimate of the number of breeders of the breed in Australia. 
* A declaration of the percentage of specimens breeding true to type and colour. 
* A suggested Standard for the breed or variety (must be public domain, creative commons licence or else applicant must own copyright and be submitting it to grant publishing rights to OPSA.
* If possible photos of an example of male and female of the breed.

Any request shall be considered by the Committee with a view to including the breed or variety in OPSA. 

==Consideration==

If upon examination of the statement, inspection of the images and general knowledge of the situation, the Committee is satisfied that the breed or variety has reached a pure-bred condition, they may decide to admit the breed or variety to the set of Standards presented on the website and in any Open Poultry Standards Australia publications. You will be notified by return email of the decision.
