Transylvanian Naked Neck Male. Edited from unknown source
Standard-bred poultry v.117
Origin: France
Category: Softfeather Heavy
Egg Colour: Tinted
Sitter: No
The Transylvanian Naked Neck is a feathered chicken with a completely naked neck. The majority opinion is that it originated in Hungary but then the Germans took up the breed and perfected the type. They are a versatile and robust meat fowl and good layers of eggs that were originally brown. In modern times show lines of fowls commonly lay a tinted egg. They are hard in cold weather and also very resilient in hot climates.
CHARACTERISTICS OF MALE
Carriage: Bold, distinctive fowl, alert and strong in appearance. Appearing disproportionate due to its plump, featherless neck and the well furnished tail.
Head: Medium-sized, slightly elongated. A simple oval cap of straight, medium developed feathers surrounding the base of the comb.
Comb: Single, medium sized, evenly serrated with erect and strong spikes.
Eye: Strong, healthy and bright.
Body: Appearing elongated and reminiscent of a good farm rooster.
Back: Broad, straight and medium length. Saddle feathers, abundant Breast broad and well developed.
Wings: Of medium size, well-folded, carried without drooping; primaries and secondaries, broad, and overlapping in natural order when wing is folded.
Tail: Rather long with well-developed sickles, forming contrast, by the abundance of its plumage, with the nakedness of the neck. The tail should not be held too high.
Legs: Medium-length and without a trace of feathers.
Toes: Medium length, straight and four on each foot.
Flesh: fine and delicate.
CHARACTERISTICS OF FEMALE
The characteristics of the hen are similar, taking into account the differences due to sex. The wattles and comb are much less developed.
COLOUR OF MALE AND FEMALE
Comb, Face, Wattles and Ear-Lobes: Bright red.
Beak: Yellow or horn in the black, blue and red; yellow or white in the cuckoo, buff and white.
Eyes: orange.
