THE COCK

Head - Skull fine. Beak short and strong. Eyes full and bright. Comb single, medium size, upright. Face smooth. Earlobes and Wattles of moderate size.

Neck short and abundantly frizzled.

Body broad and short, full round breast, and long wings. Tail rather large, erect, very full but loose, with full sickles and plenty of side hangers.

Legs of medium length. Shanks quite free from feathers. Toes (four) rather thin and well spread.

Carriage erect and strutting.

Plumage moderately long, hard and wiry, each feather curled towards the bird's head, and the frizzling as close and abundant as possible.

Weight from 6 lb (2.72kg) to 7 lb (3.18kg)

THE HEN

With the exception of the comb (much smaller in proportion) and the neck (not as abundantly frizzled) the general characteristics are similar to those of the cock, allowing for the natural sexual differences. Weight from 5 lb (2.27kg) to 6 lb (2.72kg).

COLOUR

Beak yellow or horn in the Buff and the White, and dark willow or black in the dark varieties. (Note that the APS has eased these requirements by wording it differently, however what is set out here from the BPS is the original understanding.)

Eyes brilliant red. Comb, Face, Wattles and Earlobes bright red. Legs and Feet yellow in the Buff and the White ; yellow or willow in other varieties.

Plumage - Black, blue, buff, or white, a pure even shade throughout in the "self-coloured" varieties, and Black-red, Duckwing, etc., as in Modern Game.

SERIOUS DEFECTS

• Want of breadth of feather;

• Want of curl;

• Feathers on legs;

• White legs;

• Other than single comb;

• White lobes;

• Deformity of any kind.
